How to get rid of fleas?

Fleas can be eradicated by employing average solutions

Fleas ó more than 2,000 versions of them abound in the world ó are minuscule, persistent, blood-sucking pests. They can be eliminated completely by using average eradication solutions. Most often, common household pets bring them home inadvertently.

To get rid of fleas, dehumidify your rooms

An average-sized room requires a 10 liters/day dehumidifier. This dehumidifier effectively removes 10 liters of water vapor in the air each day. Fleas need relative humidity thatís higher than 50% to survive. Maintaining the humidity level in the room at less than 50% for two days kills the adult fleas and larvae. Besides, hatching of flea eggs is also prevented. Later, you can clean your room by employing a vacuum cleaner.

Wash all the pet bedding or change pet bedding if necessary

Put your pet bedding in the washing machine and wash at high temperature. This is an excellent method for getting rid of dander, flea larvae, flea eggs, and flea excrement.
Next, wash the bed-sheets, bathroom rug, and the sofa cover that your pet uses as bedding. If any of these items are not salvageable due to intense flea infestation, purchase new ones. Burn the old ones.

Use Insect Growth Regulator (IGR)

Methoprene and pyriproxyfen, powerful IGRs, prevent flea larvae from hatching. IGRs, more effective than room foggers, reach the base of carpet fibers and inhibit flea larvae efficiently.

To get rid of fleas, a Vacuum cleaner is indispensable

Since fleas are extremely tiny, youíll need a vacuum cleaner to suck them out of their hiding places. Restrain your pets in safe places when youíre using the vacuum cleaner to suck in fleas. Clear every surface, hiding place, and nook off fleas. Seal the vacuum trash bag in a separate plastic bag and dispose it safely.

Utilize Borate acid mixed with botanical dust

This mixture acts like a natural insecticide that deters fleas ably. Preventive measures to avoid breathing in this mixture should be taken. Spray this mixture on the carpet, bed, furniture, and all other flea hideouts. Leave it for 24 hours. You can do this when youíre going out for a day. Later, vacuum the areas that you have used this mixture. Alternatively, you can just wash the sheets and leave the mixture on the carpet.

To get rid of fleas, clean your back-yard

Fleas tend to hide and breed in dark, moist spots. Since sunlight deters fleas, you should trim the grass and prune the foliage in your back-yard. Additionally, you can use Eucalyptus leaves or cedar wood chips in your back-yard to deter fleas. Cedar wood chips, available at convenience stores, can also be used in your petís kennel.

Select your petís flea shampoo carefully

Conventional insecticides like d-limonene, carbaryl, chlorpyrifos, permethrin, and pyrethrins irritate or harm pets and humans, as well. Hence, you should opt for natural flea irritants and insecticides that deter fleas, but are harmless to your pets.
Eucalyptus oil, Rosemary oil, and Citrus oil are safe for both cats and dogs. Cedar oil and Tea tree oil are safe for dogs but toxic to cats.

Use Warm Light & Soapy Water

This offers an excellent alternative solution when compared to potentially harmful chemicals. You can utilize this near your petís kennel. Place a dish of warm, soapy water directly beneath a night light. Fleas, attracted by the night light, will fall into the soapy water below the light and drown.

Electronic Traps & Sticky Flea Pads

Sticky flea pads, identical to conventional fly paper used in households several decades earlier, are typically fitted to an electronic trap. You can use this trap in locations around your house that are infested with fleas. Usually, fleas are attracted to the trap and stick to the sticky paper. Though highly effective, this method of getting rid of fleas may take weeks.

To get rid of fleas, use Nylar

Nylar, popularly known as pyriproxyfen, eradicates flea infestation in homes with wood, tile, or linoleum flooring. Nylar controls the proliferation of fleas and is used in areas where pets tend to spend their time. Nylar, a unique product, mimics the juvenile hormone that occurs in fleas and prevents young fleas from maturing into adults. Additionally, this potent flea-killer reduces flea population drastically by stopping flea eggs from hatching.

Rosemary Flea Dip ó Another holistic cure for pet dogs

Rosemary flea dip, an effective solution for combating canine flea infestations, entails placing two glasses of rosemary sprigs for half an hour in boiling water. Later, the liquid is strained. This concentrate is then added to about a gallon of warm water. For this solution to work effectively, the water must be warm. You can pour this warm water on your pet. Permit your pet to dry ó naturally. Donít use a towel.

Apply Lavender Essential Oil to your pet dog

Lavender essential oil, an efficient flea killer, is usually applied on pet dogs. Apply a few drops of this oil in the neck region and a few drops in the tail region. This controls flea infestations adequately. Lavender oil can be sprayed in areas where your pets spend a lot of time.

Use Brewerís Yeast to get rid of fleas

Brewerís yeast, a canine-only flea control solution, works in a unique manner. One tiny tablet of this compound added to your petís food results in your pet tasting exceedingly repulsive to fleas. Nevertheless, you should consult your veterinarian about the right dosage to be administered to your pet. The dosage depends on the weight of your pet.

Apple Cider Vinegar ó A strong smelling flea controller

Apple cider vinegar, a canine-specific flea controller, cannot be used inside your house because of its unusually strong odor. Add a tablespoon of this liquid to your petís water bowl. This repulses fleas and reduces the chances of a flea infestation.

Use Lemon Spray to get rid of fleas

Lemon spray, another natural flea repellent, is absolutely safe for your pets. A lemon is cut into four pieces and immersed in boiling water overnight. You should remove the lemon pieces in the morning and spray the lemony solution on your pet. You could also spray the solution in areas of your house where fleas tend to hide.
